As web technology matures, better and better self-hosted web apps are popping up every year. Here, we collect our (opinionated) experiences with deploying, using, as well as customizing such solutions. In addition to being self-hosted, we also prefer apps that are ideally open-source, actively developed, easy to work with, and have a strong, active community behind them.

Wekan is a great, open-source, self-hosted alternative to Trello. It can easily be installed on Ubuntu, the trickiest part is configuring the Apache reverse proxy. This is needed since it runs on Node.
